Looking at the economic climate of today doesn't all have to be doom and gloom, in fact some industries have held their own and still continue to employ job seeks as more and more projects open worldwide. The energy industry is one such sector, namely oil and coal. The world relies heavily on energy to keep moving and getting a job in the industry will keep you employed for a lifetime.
Most people think of engineering jobs when it comes to energy but that doesn't always have to be the case. Energy companies still need IT & communications, administration, drivers and lawyers. To go even further offshore oil rigs need cleaners & chefs. When you look at employer need from a bigger picture you will begin to realize that personnel is required from every type background.
IT & Communications - The oil and gas industry relies heavily on IT and communications. Employment can be on oil rigs to remote desert areas and each of these locations needs to be linked to the outside world 24/7.
Administration - As any other business the energy industry relies on admin workers to push paper. Contracts need to be filled and dealings need to be correctly documented.
Engineering - There is definitely no shortfall of engineering jobs when it comes to the energy industry. New sites are being built all the time and at the same time sites are being taken down on a continually basis. This makes the demand for engineers so much so.
Offshore jobs - Offshore work has to be the most sought after when it comes to working in the energy industry and more specifically the oil and gas industry. Drillers and engineers can find themselves working rotational shifts, where they work and live 6 months offshore for 6 months holiday. These jobs attract much attention because they are so well paid but getting in can be very difficult due to their popularity.
Jobs in the Middle East - Jobs in remote areas have always been very attractive to engineers and the like. It is also why working in the Middle East has always been so attractive. Oil companies that earn up to 1 Billion dollars a day will ensure that you earn your worth.
Working in the energy / oil and gas industry doesn't always mean you have to leave home as many companies have offices in cities all over the world. The United States of America is seeing an oil revival and many jobs can now be found at home. So, no matter how you look at it the oil and gas industry looks like it's got plenty of years in it still.
